windows live messenger and live messenger Plus

I was quite stupid yesterday, I know there is a plug in for windowslive, and was wondering one, what version you needed, and what version of the actual messenger you need, I upgraded, downloaded live 8.5, and plus 4.0 something, the typical jaws keystrokes didn't work, so, like hitting ALT 1-0 to go through your history, so if someone could give me the right link for the downloads that will still work the right way with jaws eight.

and stupid me did a system restore to the 23rd, and now my regular messenger isn't making the sounds, I looked in the sounds and alerts tab, and highlighted a sound and hit preview sound, and it said it couldn't be found, so crap. I'm a bit screwed, so help would be appreciated.

please, I'm a bit desprate here

You'll need to uninstall both WL Messenger and Messenger Plus. Then reinstall WL Messenger version 8.5. Then get Messenger Plus from http://www.msgpluslive.net. Once you have Messenger Plus installed and configured the way you want it configured, open a conversation with any contact, and do the following:

When I installed messenger plus a few months ago it worked perfectly automatically.

well now the problem is is I have no idea where to start to send someone a sound clip thingy, the emotion sounds, or what ever they're called, a friend sent me some, but I don't know where to look to send her them, or to do anything in relation to them. gaah, I'm soooo totally clueless

you type
/sound <name of sound exactly>

so like
/sound nerd alert

to view your list of sounds, go to your messenger main window and look in the menu bar, or hit alt P, or alt U, I forget but there's a menu called plus.
Under that there's your sound libarary, best I can remember.

there's also another way to do it:

as far as i know, the sounds listed in the menu are the standard plus sounds. here's what i do:

1. open the window of the contact you want to send a sound to

2. tab until it says sounds, or something like that

3. tab round some more to find an edit box, where you type the name of the exact sound (or something close to it). press enter

4. tab once to the list, and select the right one using the arrow keys

5: press enter to send

i know it's long... but it works. :)

What is messenger plus?

Wasn't there some dangers with messenger plus? Like a virus or something?

Also, in order for all the fun stuff to work, does your contacts have to have ms plus as well?

Post 11 by HauntedReverie (doing the bad mango) on Sunday, 26-Oct-2008 22:16:26

messenger plus allows you to send sounds to other users.
Yes, your contacts have to have plus for the sounds to go through
Messenger plus does come with bundled adware. But during installation, there's a little combo box about sponsering the program. Make sure the "I refuse to give my support" box is checked. I think that's what it's called. That doesn't add the adware.

Hmm, does anyone else seem to have this problem, or am I the lucky one?
I install messenger plus, but when I go to reload the messenger, it won't load, no errors or anything, it just won't load or do anything, I have to uninstall plus in order for messenger to work again.

Damn, it seems that Windows messenger and JAWS aren't very compatible. Wonder why that is.

Plain ol' Windows Messenger doesn't work well with JFW. You can get Windows Live Messenger from http://messenger.msn.com. If your version of JFW is high enough (7.10.x or later), it should work well.

Yeah, I've got JAWS 9 and Windows Live, and it works pretty well.

Hey, I got WLM 2009 and can not read my messages by hitting alt 1 and so on? Does this version not work?

Post 19 by kool_turk (This site is so "educational") on Thursday, 29-Jan-2009 7:02:03

freedom scientific have not updated the scripts for that version yet. It's still usable, you just have to keep refering to the history window. It's not a big deal really. I remember a time when we didn't have to rely on jaws scripts to read automaticly, FS have made us lazy.

hm, KT, it has indeed made us lazy, but we are not lazy in other aspects of life, just where technology is involved
